Colorless, Odorless, Tasteless

28 October – 9 November 2016, Helmut Bar, Leipzig, curated by Maeshelle West-Davies

I dedicated my first solo exhibition to wondering about and on water. I have crossed the European border from Greece to Turkey in 2016 at Lesvos by ferry. Exactly the same route many refugee people have taken, the opposite way round, and wrapped in privilege. I collected seawater from these locations, and from the tap in Leipzig as well. These are shown in a space of ambient projection of the crossing. The inspiration of the piece comes partly from Viktor Papanek’s writings: ‘It is useful to remember that on life-raft Earth, everything we breathe, eat, drink, wear or use, has gone through billions of digestive systems since the planet was first formed.’
